Quick Tips to Pick Your Pros

When it comes to buying or selling a home, it is common to be a little confused about the process, people involved, and terminology used in contracts and loans. Finding the best professionals to navigate property transactions isn’t quite the same as realizing our favorite and frequented shops, cinemas, salons, or most compatible doctor’s offices. Here are a few tips to help you navigate:

Take Your Time If You Are Able

Homebuyers & home sellers often sign a contract or accept a loan because the introductory pitch was strong or was presented on the day that the customer needed to hear answers. With tens of thousands to millions of dollars on the line when buying a home, be selective when searching for lenders and real estate agents. Make time for multiple conversations with different providers.

Talk with a variety of banks, credit unions, and mortgage lenders to get perspective on the amount you can afford. Acknowledge that you set the amount that you are comfortable spending on a home. The amount you can afford doesn’t necessarily equate to the amount you should set as your ceiling. Learning the amount, you qualify for with your lender will help you set parameters with your real estate agent. Keep an open mind and choose the best options for you.

Get To know Agents Before Choosing

Real estate agents present to the public often through social media, events, or open houses. Likely there are many that you will work well with and some that you may not. How do you decide to work with a specific real estate agent?

  1. Conversation- Talk with a variety of agents to sense personalities with whom you form a natural personal connection. The agent is a person you will talk with often through a series of critical appointments and events so ensuring that you have an open, honest relationship without censoring your thoughts is important.
  2. Interview-A few sample questions to ask real estate agents include:
  3. What is your experience?
  4. How do you use technology?
  5. Do you limit the number of clients that you work with at a time?
  6. What do you know about buying/selling for a specific scenario (PCS, second home purchases, foreclosure, divorce, investment properties)?
  7. What are your fees and/or agency fees?
  8. How does your agency help me reach my goals?
  9. Request presentation-Real estate agents know what you are looking for and ask them to present their best strategies to you.
